New AmeriCorps Service Sites + VISTA Project Sites

AmeriCorps Sites

*Site Applications for the 2024-2025 Service Year are OPEN! All applications are due no later than May 10th.*

Hosting an AmeriCorps Member
Organizations interested in becoming a service site for an AmeriCorps direct service member (or two!) must demonstrate a community need or gap in services that an AmeriCorps member may address. Sites also need the capacity to recruit, train, and support an AmeriCorps member. Since AmeriCorps is not considered employment, we seek to work with sites that craft a meaningful role for their member. All organizations must select a site supervisor to mentor and manage their AmeriCorps member that also acts as the primary contact with our staff. Sites are selected upon review of a detailed application by an internal panel at HHCK upon having a demonstrated need, an evidence-based or evidence-informed delivery model for services, a clear recruitment and retention plan, and organizational capacity.

Activities of an AmeriCorps Member: including, but not limited to, housing-focused case management, financial literacy training, homelessness prevention, rapid rehousing, housing counseling, and building, renovating, and weatherizing affordable housing. See our full list of member activities here.

VISTA Projects

*Site Applications for the 2024-2025 Service Year will open in Fall, 2024. Due to funding cuts at the federal level this is a later start date than in previous years. Please complete this intent to apply form if your organization is interested in applying to become a VISTA Project Site in 2024.*

Become a VISTA Project Site
Organizations seeking capacity-building services after identifying a need in the community that relates to poverty, social justice, and/or economic equity. Prospective sites will develop a project with the input of the intended beneficiaries and the community at large. VISTA members will focus on accomplishing specific objectives from the VISTA project with the support of the project site. A VISTA project is typically three years. Each year is meant to build upon the previous year with intentional efforts to ensure the work of the project is sustained after VISTA resources are complete. Priority will be given to project proposals that align with our program goals, provide an evidence-informed need in the community, and demonstrate the capacity to host a VISTA member.

Activities of a VISTA Project: activities focus on building the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations to provide better direct services that fight poverty. Projects must work to break the cycle of poverty by addressing critical community needs. VISTAs are not employees or designed to fill in gaps in staffing needs. Activities cannot duplicate routine functions of staff or displace paid employees. Examples of VISTA activities include: building sustainable partnerships with local organizations and businesses, recruiting/training/coordinating volunteers, and grant writing.
